Lecture 5 : Critical Review
Week 5 | 27th September 2019
Critical Review is about the critique (to ask or evaluate) research conducted by others. Consider using the articles from our proposal. Marks will be given based on the relevance to our main research topic and depth of our examination. Do not use websites, strictly use journal articles with max 5 years time frame if possible.
Articles are within Journals which are within Databases
e.g. Digital style history: the development of graphic
design on the Internet (Article name) > Design Creativity (Journal name) > Taylors and Francis (Database)
It's not a summary of the article (Biography and full entry), that's only the first paragraph. the rest consists of how you judge the article or evaluate the work done. In the rest of the paragraphs, consider the underlying assumptions or theoretical framework, structure, methodology, types of reasons or evidence used to support conclusions and logical connections.
7 articles
Word format (1.5 spacing, Arial 12pt)
Within 2 pages of content
Deadline: Week 7

Critical Review
Week 5
27th September 2019
Feedback:
Dr Jinchi commented on one critical review I have conducted during class. She helped me better understand how I can go about writing the Review. How I go about the summary, structure (flow and method of writing), analysis on the different research styles and conclusion. Begin with a review and justify and elaborate further in my own words. Consider elaborating on the necessity of certain methods.
Week 6
04th October 2019
Feedback:Dr Jinchi commented on the 3 critical reviews I have conducted so far. She advised on how I may comment and critique the article further. For example: What is the strengths/weaknesses of this way of writing the paper? and comment on researchers’ mentality. Use surname when addressing the authors (they are not your friends). When wrinting in regards of a diagram, mention 'Figure 1' and provide caption to the image used. Also, avoid using direct quotations from the article and instead paraphrase from it with your own words. Furthermore, Dr Jinchi helped me with my grammar and sentence structures.

Experiences
It was interesting to exercise my critical thinking skills. However, I would have preferred more time to do my reading and research on articles.
Observations
Everyone has their own curiosity streak and a topics of interest. It's nice to see everyone freely being able to pick a topic of their own passionate choosing.
Findings
Finding the articles related to my research topic was not an easy task. It took a few tries and multiple wrong articles till I managed to find the right ones.
Note to self: Need to seriously brush up my art history knowledge.
