Week 8 | 17th October 2019
Recap from Week 6 and 7: Bring forward final project into project 2 to focus on the packaging. Final project is more of the merchandising. Work will be showcased in InnoFest 2019. It is a group project, 2 from design and 2 from Biosciences.
Final Project Product (link): Synbiotic Yogurt Drink with Inulin
Today we met with our Bioscience counterparts. Rashah, my teammate for Project 2 and Final project, and myself met with Melvino, a Bioscience student that created the Synbiotic Yogurt product. We discussed about the product and its packaging potential.
We discussed regarding the packaging and merchandising of the product. The students gave us access to the market survey questions so that we may make more calculated design decisions.
Feedback
Week 8
Consider the whole branding and merchandising of the product. Give it personality and emphasize on the unique selling point of the product (USP). We need to work together with the Bioscience students, however, it is us who decides on the design.
Week 9
There was no class today.
Week 10
Mr Shamsul liked the original name that the Bioscience students came up with, so we decided to work with that. The logo he said looks fine for a first draft but can be refined further. He liked the multiple colours as it communicates cheerfulness and energy. The positioning of the brand needs to be worked on further as it does not suit the current logo. Mr Shamsul proposed it to be an energy drink, however, that is not the purpose of the drink so we need to come up with another angle. He cautioned us to be careful with the labeling of the bottle especially the curved areas.

SYNYO – Synbiotic yogurt *it can be changed*
Yogurt in the market today, they
don’t have the good bacteria (probiotic) anymore. Hence why we add the inulin
(prebiotic) to let it survive. A teamwork between prebiotic and probiotic to
create symbiotic: probiotics + prebiotic = synbiotic
Strawberry flavor
Can expand the series to other
flavours. Original, Blueberry, Tutti fruitti, Mango…
Liquid colour: 95% white
Note: Net weight: 200ml bottle (Nett.
200ml) & EXP: 31012020. We must prevent sunlight from
entering. Opaque. HDPE (opaque) /LDPE
(transparent) material for bottle and cap
Prefer with the cap on bottle.
Play with the shape and wrap. Colourful to attract customers. the wrap needs to be waterproof.
It will be exposed to condensation. E.g. Nutriboost orange
flavoured white packaging

Unhealthy food and lifestyle

Reflection
Experiences
I was interested in the project. It would be an interesting experience to work with the Bioscience students. It is a first time for me.
Observations
I realized we would be working in pairs and along with 2 other students from a different faculty.
Findings
The purposes of Packaging can go beyond just aesthetics and basic functions. There is as much of functionality that goes into it.
